EDU510 Working with Clients Defenses: Psychodynamic and other Emotion-Focused Approaches

This elective course is designed to further counselor capacities to work with/bypass clients’ defenses and to work directly with their emotions/core affect. In addition to theoretical content and readings, the course relies heavily on practicing skills from brief/intensive psychodynamic and/or emotion-focused approaches. Practice experiences involve other students in the course. Students participate in both counselor roles and client roles with peers.

Eligibility Rule: Pre-requisite: Successful completion of EDU 457 or EDU 457M. E-mailed permission of instructor required. It is also recommended that MS students complete EDU 460 or EDU 460M or EDU 460S before taking this course.
